Bagan -Mt. Victoria (Natma Taung Nationalpark) – Bagan

Highlight: Trekking and Hilltribe Villages

Day 1:
Bagan – Kanpetlet by car -/L/D

Early morning our car will meet you at the hotel. Drive approx. 1 ˝ hrs by car to Chauk and visit the very colourful market, the right place for your last shopping just before you continue to the mountain! Afterwards continue to Gazunma Village for lunch. Then proceed to Kanpelet which will take about 4 hours driving. Dinner and overnight at private Guesthouse in Kanpelet.
Kanpetlet is located near the peak of Myanmar’s third highest
mountain.

***The Natma Taung National Park covers an area of 722 km˛ with many rare species of flora and fauna.***

Day 2:
Kanpetlet – trekking – Mindat by car B/L/D

Early morning after breakfast at 07:30, explore the area. From Kanpetlet (1400 m) it is 24 km to the peak of Mount Victoria (3109 m). The car can go quite near to the 2nd base near to the peak, so that you have to climb only about 8 km by feet (it will take about 2 ˝ hours). Enjoy the spectacular views over the jungle and mountain area. After a short break return to the second base-camp on Mount Victoria and continue by car to Kanepetlet. After lunch at local restaurant drive about 4 hours over bumpy roads to Mindat (approx 1500 m). If time permits have a coffee break at Kangyi village before the road goes steep up the Chin Hills to Mindat, a base for Mount Victoria. Mindat is a small town inhabited by Chin people. The Chin call themselves “mountain people”. Stay overnight at Guesthouse in Mindat.

Mindat is about 1500 m above sea-level.

Day 3:
Mindat – Chin Tribe Village - Mindat B/L/D

After breakfast, drive to PANOW VILLAGE. You may have the chance to see the famous Chin-women with tattooed faces, a fading tradition. They earn their living by hunting and farming in the mountain. Return back to Mindat. Lunch at local restaurant.
In the afternoon explore Mindat area. Overnight at Guesthouse in Mindat.

If you like, you could ask your local Guide to arrange a Chin Dance.
Please note that this is on your own expense.

Day 4:
Mindat – Bagan by car B/L/-

In the morning after breakfast, drive back to Bagan. Stop for lunch en route. At approx 3 pm you will reach the Ayeyarwaddy River at Kyun Chaung and cross the river by Z-Craft. Transfer from the Jetty to your Hotel. Hotel in Bagan own arrangement or you book through us the Hotel.

Here our GMT service will end.

We do not offer this tour during rainy season! And also direct after rainy season the road between Kanpetlet and Mindat might be not accessible!

Best time to visit Mt Victoria and surrounding area is during December, January and February!
Sometimes it is still raining in November and after February the peak might be covered in thick fog!

Please note that itinerary is subject to change due to circumstances which we can’t foresee at the moment!

This area is only open for foreign visitors since a couple of years! Please do not expect any kind of luxury!
The Guesthouse in Kanpetlet is private owned, but in Mindat we have to use the Army Guesthouse. Sometimes even after bookings are confirmed, there might be no rooms available!
Mindat got power supply from a small hydro-power-station, but nevertheless, sometimes there might be no electricity!

We further advise to bring your own sleeping bag, even the guesthouses offer bed-sheets!
This tour is NOT SUITABLE for children!

 

Don’t forget your trekking shoes or at least proper walking shoes and some warm clothes!
*** In case of bad weather the trekking path from Kanpetlet to Mindat will be closed!***

  • Located between 21'24' N and 93'55' E in Kanpet-let, Mindut and Matupi Townships of Chin State.

  • 279 square miles.

  • Established in 1994.
Access
  • Yangon to Bagan-Nyaung-Oo, 320 miles by flight, Bagan-Nyaung-Oo to Chauk, 18 miles by car, Chauk via Seikpyu to Hsaw, 68 miles by car and Hsaw to Kan-pet-let, 12 miles by car or Hsaw to Mindut, 42 miles by car.
Objectives
  • (a) To conserve the watershed areas of Lemro river, Myitha river, Saw Chaung, Maw Chaung, Salin Chuaung, Che Chaung, Yow Chaung, Mon Chaung, etc.
  • (b) To conserve the scenic beauty of natural forests.
  • (c) To conserve Mountain Ecosystem and prohibit illicit hunting.
  • (d) To preserve 5 species of rare birds which can be found only in Myanmar, other native and migratory birds their habitats.
  • (e) To preserce rare species of Myanmar Orchids.
  • (f) To educate local people to shift from practicing shifting cultivation to cultivating perennial plants and trees.
  • (g) To promote and upgrade the park as an ecotourism attraction.
  • (h) To attract tourists with water rafting and rapid-shooting during the rainy season while the river flow is rapid.

Conservation, Development and Research Programmes
  • (a) Education and prohibiting of shifting cultivation in the protected areas.
  • (b) Inventory of forest flora.
  • (c) Study and research on bird species and their natural habitats.
  • (d) Establishment of modern Forest Village with the assistance of rule people to initiate a permanent Taungya planning system with perennial plants.
  • (e) Conducting a field survey and inventory to promote and uograde the park for ecotourism industry.
Opportunities for Study and Recreation
  • (a) Recreation and viewing of the natural mountain scenery.
  • (b) Visiting the third highest Mountain in Myanmar which is (10018) feet high, and hiking a distance of 15 miles from the old Kan-pet-let city, or driving 10 miles by car from Kan-pet-let city and hiking another 5 miles to the mountain.
  • (c)Observation of 159 bird species including 5 indigenous species and also Blyth's Tragopan, a very rare species.
  • (d)Paticipation in organized Orchid Tours where the most attractive Myanmar Orchids exist.
  • (e) Observing the traditional and cultural heritage of Chin people and their living systems.
  • (f) Observing the natural forest and trees, especially Rhodoendron arboreum.
  • (g) Accommodation for 5 persons at the guest house.
